Children's Assessment Center

The Children’s Assessment Center (CAC) protects and assists child victims of suspected sexual assault in a child sensitive environment. A multi-disciplinary team consisting of interview specialists, law enforcement, children’s protective services, medical staff and mental health staff respond to allegation of sexual abuse and provide all of the services needed by a child who may have been sexually abused. In addition to services provided when a report is made regarding allegations of sexual abuse, an Assessment Counselor is available to talk with parents and provide services to parents and children when a child is displaying behaviors that may be suspicious of sexual abuse. Parents can call the CAC and talk with a counselor to discuss their concerns.

Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 am– 5:00pm

Christian Counseling Center

Christian Counseling Center offers a weekly men's group addressing issues arising from destructive anger and/or domestic violence. Emphasis is on identifying and correcting cognitive distortions underlying anger and violence (including beliefs/attitudes regarding gender inequality and entitlement); developing empathy; accountability for behavior; and identification and implementation of appropriate strategies for development of health, intimate relationships with others.

Time: Wednesdays, 5:15-6:45 p.m.

Place: Christian Counseling Center, 3355 Eagle Park Drive, NB, Suite 106 (Leonard at East Beltline), Grand Rapids, MI 49525-7004.

Minimum time commitment: six months (approximately 26 sessions)

Cost: $60 per session (depending on diagnosis, some insurances will cover)

Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids

Dwelling Place improves the lives of people by creating quality affordable housing and providing essential support services. Dwelling Place is committed to providing support services to neighbors struggling with issues surrounding homelessness. Often, the underlying cause for homelessness is mental illness, physical and learning disabilities, poverty, domestic violence and substance abuse. The Dwelling Place Resident Support Services Program has a team of highly-qualified, well-trained staff who provide services, hand-in-hand with many community organizations, to more than 300 individuals and families, at any given time.

Project Safe Dates: Dating violence prevention program for teenagers.

The goal of Project Safe Dates is to reduce the risk that teens will become either victims or perpetrators of dating or sexual violence. The curriculum includes eight 50 minute sessions. Topics include: defining caring relationships, defining dating abuse, preventing sexual assault and harassment, myth and facts about dating and sexual violence, why people abuse, how to help a friend, and media literacy. Safe Dates is suitable for youth age 12-18 and can be adapted for use with teens with developmental disabilities. Teacher and parent trainings are also available.

Kent County Sheriff Department

We deal with the domestic violence issue from initial response through adjutication, which includes referral to safe shelter, and other programs. We assist the public in obtaining Personal Protection Orders and enforcing court orders.

Legal Aid of Western Michigan

For more than 30 years, Legal Services funded agencies in Western Michigan have provided free legal counsel, advice, and representation to low income persons and Seniors in non-criminal, non-fee generating matters. Legal Aid of Western Michigan currently serves people in 17 counties in the lower Western part of Michigan. The attorneys at Legal Aid of Western Michigan provide a full range of legal assistance to eligible clients. The Legal Assistance Center
